Health Insurance Issues
Health insurance is a vital part of your, and your family’s, medical and physical health. Unfortunately too many Americans currently don’t have health insurance. If you don’t have health insurance you may not be aware that there are policies you could afford that would provide you with coverage to ensure you get the medical and health care to keep you well and healthy. In addition, healthcare reform passed in 2010 will expand options for people who may not be able to get, or be able to afford, health insurance through their employer. You may be able to get insurance coverage through your state’s high-risk pool or purchase a plan through a state-run “exchange” that will be created in 2014 to expand insurance company options to people who do not have other coverage options. Undocumented immigrants will not be covered. They will also not be allowed to purchase health insurance on the exchanges—even if they pay the entire amount with their own money. If you do have health insurance you may not be aware of the benefits it provides and how to work with your insurance company.
